What is hosting?

For those of you who are not familiar with the Internet and how it works, a website is hosted by a server (a type of computer). In other words, all of the pages of your website are located on the server's hard drive. That server has to be connected to the Internet 24/7 in order for your website to be seen 24/7. As you might have guessed, that costs money.

Also, whenever someone looks at your website, they are downloading webpages , video clips, and audio clips from your website to their computer. That uses what is known as bandwidth, which also costs money. The more they look at (download), the more it costs.
